The exhibition will be open to the public from March 12 to 19, 2008, daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., free entrance.

The glass event is held under the auspices of Václav Jehlička, Czech Minister of Culture, and Margot Klestil-Löfler, Ambassador of Austria to the Czech Republic.


In an exhibition held at the Grand Priory Palace in Prague, Peter Rath (born 1939), a member of Vienna’s noted Lobmeyer glassmaking dynasty, presents examples of cut, engraved and painted glass, as well as traditional and experimental designs, such as the Liquid Skin cup housed in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Shipibo bowl with patterns inspired by the art of Shipibo Indians of Peru, produced for Christian Dior in Paris. The Peter Rath Glass Studio in Kamenický Šenov (Sklářský ateliér Kamenický Šenov Peter Rath, s. r. o.) specialized in the production of limited series of glassware for Lobmeyer and other prominent glass companies. The Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague holds numerous such pieces in its glass collections. Following in the footsteps of his celebrated grandfather Stefan Rath (1876–1960), Peter has been highly successful in upholding the family pride in the traditional craft of glassmaking during his fifteen-year glass career in the Czech Republic. During that period, he supported and motivated North Bohemian glassmakers, thereby greatly encouraging the further advancement of an art discipline in which his family has been engaged for six generations, beginning in 1823.
