Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague
From the 1950s, Jan Bartůšek (born Feb. 28, 1935 Prague – died Sept. 11, 1993 Prague) was a prominent contributing photographer for the magazine Mladý svět (Young World). Together with Leoš Nebor, Pavel Dias and Miroslav Huck, Bartůšek favoured photographing young people’s everyday lives. The gradual relaxation of the ideological oppression of the society was reflected also during the “Majales“ (May Day) student festival in 1965, when Allen Ginsberg, an American poet of the Beat Generation, visited Prague and was elected “King of May“. In addition, this small-scale exhibition shows other, harsher levels of Bartůšek’s documentary photography.
