Prepared by Jan Mlčoch (UPM curator) and Vladimír Birgus, a comprehensive exhibition of 20th-century Czech photography is shown in the Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle in Bonn, totalling some 500 images.

A variety of styles and trends in photography are featured in separate sections, dating from the turn of the century (Pictorialism, documentary and reportage photography), through modern photographic currents of the 1920s, followed by Surrealist experimentation and Poetism, post-war reportage and documentary photography, the flowering of art photography and its various forms (Art Happening, Land Art, Conceptual Art, Body Art), to staged and portrait photography of the late 20th century. More than two-hundred artists (Josef Sudek, František Drtikol, Jaromír Funke, Jaroslav Rössler, Karel Hájek, Václav Jírů, Vilém Reichmann, Jan Reich, Jan Saudek, Josef Koudelka, and others) are represented in the photographic selection. The images have been lent from more than seventy different owners that include foreign collections, making the exhibition the most comprehensive survey of Czech photography to date.

The event is held under the patronage of Mrs. Eva Louise Köhler, the wife of the President of Germany, and Livie Klausová, the wife of the President of the Czech Republic. The grand opening is attended by Václav Jehlička, the Czech Minister of Culture.

An authoritative catalogue, published by the organizing institutions and the KANT publishing company in Prague, is available at the exhibition and in the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague.
