In the 1920s, Jindřich Štyrský (1899—1942) joined the Devětsil group of avant-garde artists. In 1934, together with Toyen, he co-founded the Surrealist Group of Czechoslovakia. At the time, he began work on his noteworthy series of photographs, titled A Man with Blinkers, Frog Man (both 1934) and A Paris Afternoon (1935). The Modena exhibition is complemented with fragments from the artist‘s poems. A catalogue was published to accompany the exhibition prepared by Jan Mlčoch and Lucie Vlčková.
