Panoramic image became Josef Sudek’s natural means of capturing the world around him. It is this particular facet of his artistic legacy that is viewed today as his most impressive one. In 1959, they were published in Praha panoramatická (Prague Panoramas, Prague 1959), which is as one of the landmarks of world photography. Originally, the author had intended to create a large cycle of images capturing especially the city’s periphery, the slums on the edge of town. Although he was intrigued by “regal Prague“ with its innumerable historical places and monuments, in his heart he was drawn to the outskirts of the metropolis, where rows of derelict houses inhabited by workers, as well as factory courtyards, meshed with the dust-ridden countryside. The catalogue was issued by the Fundación Centro Nacional del Vidrio and Ministerio de Educación Cultura y Deporte (Spain) in cooperation with the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague to accompany the exhibition in the Real Fábrica de Cristales de la Grancha, May 2002 – January 2003.
