Volume Two of the Czech Fashion edition

This volume of the Czech Fashion edition centres on Czech clothing production from 1870–1918 in many different, formally determining contexts. The book examines society in Bohemia, its goals and social events, women’s emancipation efforts and the endeavour to reform clothing, the dress code, organization of the clothing industry, the establishment of haute-couture salons, the development of ready-to-wear clothing and a list of fashion magazines published in Bohemia. The volume gives a detailed account of the evolution of fashion styles as they appeared in the Czech lands, from a variety of revival fashions, through the individual phases of Art Nouveau attire, to ventures into designing a national, folk-type costume. The articles are richly illustrated with examples from period fashion magazines, reproductions of garments and clothing accessories from UPM’s collections, portraits and vintage photographs. The publication is intended for a broad readership, as well as specialists in historical costume.
