Silver Samurai, 2006, blown, handmade hot-shaped glass, metal structure, made at the International Glass Symposium in Nový Bor, on loan from the artist
“All my life I have blown my works partially myself in cooperation with glassmakers. My art deals with
hot liquid glass, with which I am in a direct live contact — a quick contact with the material which will not wait for me. It is different from mold-shaped sculpture. I began to work with hot glass alla prima in the late 1960s while studying at the Royal College of Art in London. After ten years of studies in the Czech Republic I touched hot glass there for the first time. And it has stayed that way.” (J. Š.)
