Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague
The exhibition of posters — advertisements for Prague entertainment venues from the collection of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, which is the largest collection of posters in the Czech Republic, focuses on the period between 1900 and 1930. This is the period that gradually saw Prague transformed from a local provincial town in the Cisleithanien (‘on this side of the Leitha’) part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire into a self-confident, modern metropolis and the capital city of the now independent Republic.
Samples of programmes, dance numbers lists, period evening-wear, glass and ceramics all accompany the collection of posters at the exhibition. An illustrated Spain catalogue has been published by the MUVIM to accompany the exhibition.
