Christopher Dresser (1834–1904) is one of the most prominent representatives of the broad reform movement prevalent in the second half of the 19th century, whose exponents strove to raise the aesthetic standard of household objects. While some aspired to reach this noble goal by championing a return to personal handiwork, Dresser embraced modern manufacturing methods, designing ware that was put into commercial production. He is now recognized as a pioneer of modern design in his own right. The display will offer a selection of table implements, candlesticks and other items of daily use. These objects constitute only one aspect of Dresser’s creative output, which in equal measure consists of planar designs. Surviving their creator, the exhibited pieces have become symbols of modern tableware.

An interactive programme will be a part of the exhibition. A guided tour will take place on April 15, at 5 pm.
