Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague
Devoted to works of European significance and high acclaim, the exhibition features unique paintings on glass and porcelain objects. The core of this collection comprises artifacts donated to the museum by Vojtěch Lanna, an art collector and a patron and co-founder of the Museum, whose death a century ago we commemorate this year. Usually, these fine works have mainly been attributed to Ignaz Preissler (1676–1741), but most recently his father Daniel Preissler (1636–1733) has also been recognized. Both artists were active in the town of Kunštát (Kronstadt) in eastern Bohemia. The exhibited items, in the possession of museums and private collections in the Czech Republic, have been the subject of scholarly interest but also of controversial interpretations. It is for the first time that the work is being presented on such a comprehensive scale.
