This latest exhibition in the series Masters of European Glassmaking offers a hand-picked selection of art pieces from the lifelong work of the glass designer and sculptor František Vízner (born 1936). Vízner trained at the Industrial School of Glassmaking in Železný Brod before studying at the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague, in the studio of Professor Karel Štipl and Assistant Professor Václav Plátek (1956—1962). After graduating from the academy he was first engaged as a glass designer at Sklo Union in Teplice and subsequently at the glassworks attached to the Centre for Arts and Crafts in Škrdlovice (1967—1977). Presently he specializes in cut studio glass in Žďár nad Sázavou. The artist creates harmonious geometric dishes and vases imbued with internal tension. Vízner‘s art is characterized by a continuity and timelessness. The works of František Vízner are housed in the most prominent Czech and foreign collections around the world.
