This small-scale exhibition explores the early photographs of Josef Sudek (born 1896, Kolín nad Labem — died 1976, Prague) produced after his return from the trenches of World War I. For years to come, the Invalid War Veterans’ Home in Prague would be his dwelling place and the city’s street life and Prague’s outskirts the main theme of his photographic work. His studies at the Central State Institution of Graphic Arts in Prague (later renamed State School of Graphic Arts) resulted in the publishing of the artist’s first portfolio titled Prague — Ten Melancholic Photographs, presented to the public for the first time in this display. The collection includes a number of shots to which Sudek returned repeatedly throughout his lifetime.Galerie Josefa Sudka
