The Czech-American artist
Drahomír Josef Růžička (1870 Trhová Kamenice – 1960 New York) is inseparably linked with Czech photography of the early 20th century. He was a physician by profession, but at the same time he was active in the organization
Pictorial Photographers of America. In the early 1920s he brought with him to the Czech lands progressive ideas of overseas photography, promoting
purist pictorialism. He markedly influenced the emerging generation of Josef Sudek, and is today considered the
father of modern Czech photography. The exhibition gives credit to his fascination by New York and also features photographs from the series
Design in Nature.
