At the end of 2008, ten years elapsed since the Washington Conference on Holocaust Era Assets, initiated by the government of the United States. In the so-called Washington Declaration, the individual participating nations, including the Czech Republic, pledged to facilitate the research and identification of the stolen Jewish property of a cultural character for its eventual restitution. The documentary-type exhibition will present numerous identified works of art housed in the Museum of Decorative Arts, and other objects whose concrete owners are known, kept in the collections of the National Gallery in Prague and the Museum Silesiae in Opava. The Memories Returned exhibition will accompany the Holocaust Era Assets Conference, held from June 26–30, 2009, in Prague and Terezín as the final event organized by the Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The exhibition is hosted by the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, in collaboration with the Documentation Centre for Property Transfers of the Cultural Assets of World War II Victims and Forum 2000 Foundation.

The exhibition has been made possible through the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and Sotheby’s, and is presented in partnership with the Jewish Museum in Prague, Terezín Memorial, National Archives of the Czech Republic and National Film Archives.

The exhibition is accompanied by an interactive programme for visitors to the museum.
