The world of small personal objects that surrounded Josef Sudek (1896—1976) became the theme of many of his photographic compositions. Sudek’s seemingly simple, scanty still-lifes were the result of the photographer’s years-long experimental work that reached one of its culmination points in the 1950s. We find in them glasses and vases, stale bread, a glass marble, a withered rose or a lovely shell that found its way into the artist’s dust-covered studio. This display is the fiftieth exhibition held at the Josef Sudek Gallery since 1995 when the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague first opened its doors to the public.
