Alois Zych (1874–1943) played an important role in promoting modern Czech photography. Although he himself did not become a professional photographer, he was highly influential in the amateur photographic movement through his personal example and work in the field. In 1908, he co-founded the Club of Amateur Photographers in Prague’s Královské Vinohrady, which associated many noted photographers, among them R. A. Šimon, J. Imlauf, J. Srp, A. Myška, F. Oliverius, J. Diviš, D. J. Růžička, J. S. Krofta, J. Jeníček, P. Koblic, A. Johann, J. Pelech, J. Voříšek, J. Anders and L. Sitenský. Alois Zych won recognition especially for his unique nude images, in which he gives a glimpse of intimate family life. Later on, he also became acknowledged as a landscape photographer and promoter of national history photography.
