The collection of glass at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague is rightly regarded as one of the best of its kind around the world, detailing the historical development of the art of glassmaking. It owes much to its initiator, the eminent industrialist, construction entrepreneur, collector, patron of the arts, and generous benefactor Vojtěch, Baron Lanna (1836–1909), who established and built up this unique set of items from the 1880s onwards. The comprehensive collection presents the development of glassmaking art from Antiquity to the 19th century.  The impulse for realising an exhibition of Lanna’s glass collection came in connection with preparations for the 2022 ICOM General Conference, which has the “strength of museums” and their collections as its central theme.
