Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague
Further to the notice of spring 2010, the Museum regrets to inform you that due to the preparatory work for the construction of a new Museum depository in Prague 5-Stodůlky (planned for 2011–2013) and the much-needed renovation of its main building (2012–2014), services to scholars and the general public will be restricted in the coming period.

The processing of some loan requests will gradually be discontinued (beginning in June 2011), owing to the necessary inventory and digitalization of the Museum’s collections, and their preparation for packing and temporary storage. Afterwards, all requests for loans of collection objects for exhibitions and displays both within the country and abroad will no longer be processed (probably from January 2012). The same applies to research activities.

In all probability, the Museum’s main building will be open to the public only until September 2012. The library’s opening hours will be limited and eventually the library will close altogether. During the reconstruction work, the Museum will present its collections at the chateau in Kamenice nad Lipou, at short-term exhibitions in the small gallery of Galerie Rudolfinum (that came under UPM’s administration in 2010), the Josef Sudek Gallery on Úvoz Street, and in various permanent collections that the Museum has prepared in partnership with the National Gallery in Prague (Veletržní Palace, Schwarzenberg Palace, St. George’s Convent, House at the Black Madonna). UPM’s collections will also be on view at the Museum of Textile in Česká Skalice and the chateaus of Nové Hrady near Litomyšl and Klášterec nad Ohří.

These measures are indispensible for the expedient preparation of the above investment projects. Ultimately, the Museum will be able to offer its visitors a better standard of services and doubled exhibition space in its historic building (beginning in 2015–2016). We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding and continued interest.
