Vojtěch Preissig, a prominent Czech artist of the early 20th century, is one of those personalities who made an extraordinary patriotic contribution to their country. Preissig combined his art and craftsmanship in graphic design with self-sacrificing and courageous service to his nation. This part of Preissig’s production will be the subject matter of an exhibition to be prepared by the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, Military Historical Institute and the Prague City Archive, and organized by C. H. EXPO. The exhibition will feature over a hundred items — posters, brochures, leaflets, prints, designs and printing plates from the time of the first and second resistance. The core of the exhibition will consist of a number of legionary recruitment posters, exceptional in the world in terms of their artistic qualities, impressiveness and sophisticated expression. On display will be also posters for the American army and other printed materials made in Preissig’s workplace at Wentworth Institute in Boston as well as designs of the Czechoslovak flag and other important pieces from the collections of the Museum of Decorative Arts, Military Historical Institute, Museum of National Literature and other institutions.
The author of the concept of the exhibition and the editor of the accompanying publication is PhDr. Lucie Vlčková (Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague).
